My name is Kowan (pronounced "Kuh-Won"), and I am a storyteller, artist, creator, dreamer, rebel, and wisdom-seeker.
I believe our collective purpose is to lovingly serve the world with our unique gifts and perspectives. And I believe human beings are inherently artists and creators, despite living in a society that tries to disconnect us from this Essential Truth.
My life has been shaped by the liberating power of Black Spirituality and deeply impacted by the work of Tricia Hersey's "Nap Ministry," both of which invite us to slow down... to get quiet... to stop... to refuse...to trust the wisdom of our bodies... to rest and connect with our DreamSpace... to reimagine and create... to combat oppression with joy... and to reconnect to our Divine Self, our communities, our relationship to nature, and the Spiritual and Ancestral realms.
When I am struggling, I try to hold on to the fact that... "Love is the force that transforms and improves the Soul of the World... It is we who nourish the Soul of the World, and the world we live in will be either better or worse, depending on whether we become better or worse. And that's where the power of love comes in. Because when we love, we always strive to become better than we are." -- Paulo Coelho "The Alchemist"
And my prayer to you is this... "I wish you rest today. I wish you a deep knowing that exhaustion is not a normal way of living. You are enough. You can rest. You must resist anything that doesn't center your divinity as a human being. You are worthy of care." -- Trica Hersey "Rest Is Resistance: A Manifesto"
